GULU: KCB Bank Security Guard Commits Suicide While on Duty

Police in Gulu district are investigating the circumstances under which a security guard deployed at a KCB bank shot and killed himself while on duty.

According to the Aswa West Police Spokesperson, David Ongom, David Akena, a security guard attached to the Security Group Africa (SGA), shot and killed himself while on duty at a KCB bank branch in Layibi division, Gulu city, on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

The incident was reported by Joseph Orogot, the branch manager at KCB, who stated that Akena shot himself through the mouth, dying instantly.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” Orogot said.

The police launched an investigation to determine the motive behind Akena’s actions and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are working diligently to understand what led to this tragic outcome. The investigation is ongoing, and we will provide more information as it becomes available,” Ongom stated.

The body of the deceased has been moved to the Gulu regional referral mortuary as the police continue their investigation to determine the motive behind Akena’s actions.
