Reverend Fr Dr. Severinus Ndugwa, the Vicar of General Mbarara Archdioceses has revealed the secret behind the magic growth of Kitabi Seminary Old Boys Association (KISOBA) League, attributing it to the unity, love, and commitment of the old boys of Katabi Seminary.

Rev. Fr Ndugwa made this revelation on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Law Development Centre (LDC) in Kampala after leading a special Holy Mass that blessed the teams before the actual beginning of soccer.

“I think everything comes from the beginning. The seminary was just a community of brothers who knew each other, where they came from, worked together, and played different types of games including football, that we are witnessing today,” Rev. Fr Ndugwa said.

During an interview with Nexus Media Ug, the Rev. Fr revealed that the teams have been brought together by following the soul unity of the Seminary.

“Again, that is the spirit of the Seminary because, we have a motto that says that the love of Christ urges us. So whatever we do, is a reflection of that love that binds us together and we thank God for that,” he said.

Rev. Fr Ndugwa is also expectant of the continued growth of the league based on the speed at which the team league has grown, and the seriousness of the different old boys, stating that regardless of their fixed schedules, they have all turned up at full capacity for the league activities.

“They say, a good beginning marks a good ending. So for me, I have high hopes. And again, there is God who enables us to be productive and that is why we have started with a mass, celebrating the Eucharist, asking God to bless our activities because everything is possible with God,” he said.

The Father explained why they decided to start with a mass, stating that since last year, the league activities have commenced with the mass to put everything in the hands of God.

Rev. Fr Ndugwa also appealed to government to have a helping hand in this league due to the huge cost of organizing the league activities each year.

“Yes, we may need government’s help because this thing is costly. There is money involved like hiring the pitch for the match, transport of the players, and their welfare like food and drinks. The government can support these activities to promote sports because, there is a saying that a healthy mind is in a healthy body and sports helps to develop our body. Therefore, we welcome government’s intervention,” he added.

The KISOBA league is one of the various activities organized under the Umbrella of KISOBA to enhance social networking among old boys of Kitabi Seminary, by converging different generations of classes, enhancing and strengthening business links, offering a platform for young graduates to connect with potential employers, initiate internship and mentorship opportunities.

It also offers an opportunity to reminisce the old glory of sporting days at the alma mater Kitabi Seminary, while providing a great opportunity to exercise for body and mental fitness.
