58 pupils and 8 teachers from Trust Infant Primary School in Mpumudde in Nakaseke district have survived an accident at Nkumba along the Entebbe road.

This incident happened on August 23, 2024, near the traffic lights at Nkumba University, at the exact spot where a concrete mixer claimed the life of a city lawyer.

They were traveling in an Isuzu bus registration number UBA 839B that was coming from Kampala, heading to Entebbe; however, it lost control, hit a government car, a Toyota double cabin registration number UG 2402C, and then fell on the road.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle, then tried to dodge hitting other vehicles. He then decided to climb a concrete embankment, but the Isuzu bus failed to climb it, and it fell into the road.

One of the locals, only identified as Kivumbi, said that they broke the windows to save the pupils, and luckily, none of them were found dead. He added that the bus driver was at fault and should be reprimanded by the police.

‘’This is now a hot spot for accidents, and the only way to avoid such accidents is to elongate the traffic lights so that people can easily see them when coming from Mpala police,’’ Kivumbi revealed.

One of the teachers, Tony Felix, said that they were going to Entebbe for a tour of the airport, zoo, and Freedom City, but they were not able to due to the accident. He added that the bus driver was not driving at a high speed, but the brakes of the bus just failed him.

‘’I am very grateful that only six minors were injured. They have been taken to Sab Medical Center for better treatment and first aid,’’ Felix disclosed.

The driver is currently on the run; however, a manhunt for him has been launched by police.
