
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Ben Kumumanya, commissioned the Buwana Milk Collection Centre, marking a major milestone in the development of Nakaseke District’s dairy sector.
Located in Kinyogoga Sub-County, the UGX 845 million facility built under the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project, aims to strengthen the dairy value chain, improve rural incomes, and transition subsistence farmers into a market-driven economy.
In his inauguration address on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Kumumanya commended Nakaseke District for its exceptional service delivery, which contributed to its impressive ranking of 12th out of 176 local governments under the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

“These developments have greatly improved connectivity and market linkages, enabling farmers to transport their produce particularly milk more efficiently and profitably,” he stated.
Kumumanya also acknowledged the district’s strong tax collection efforts, which placed it 14th nationwide, and assured continued support for Nakaseke under LEGS II, citing the district’s dedication to implementing government programs.
Dan Abaho, Chairperson of the Buwana Comparative Milk Group, said that the community had sufficient milk supply to fully utilize the new facility.
He said that the ongoing efforts to explore milk value addition, which will help stabilize prices and enhance profitability.
“Currently, a litre of milk is priced at UGX 700, but with the planned processing, prices are expected to increase,” Abaho added.

He also credited the improved Gomero–Migani road for easing market access, further benefiting local dairy farmers.
The LEGS Project’s impact extends beyond infrastructure development. It has played a pivotal role in improving livestock productivity by training Artificial Insemination (AI) technicians and equipping local youth and extension workers with the skills to provide AI services.
Additionally, the project has contributed to other significant developments in Nakaseke, including the Kiwoko Maize Milling Plant, the Kikwata Coffee Processing Facility, the Magoma and Katelekamese Market Sheds, and the Gayaza–Kalungu–Mityomere Community Access Road.
