The government is set to deliver assorted road maintenance equipment to a total of 16 districts.

The districts, including Kakumiro, Butebo, Rukiga, Kyotera, Bunyangabu, Bugweri, Nabilatuk, Kikuube, Kassanda, Karenga, Kapelebyong, Kazo, Kalaki, Terego, Obongi, Madi, and Okollo, missed the equipment that was delivered to various districts in the previous delivery by the government.

Bageya Waiswa, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Works, briefed a section of legislators from the districts and said that the government will, by March 2024, deliver graders and wheel loaders to their respective districts.

According to Bageya, the equipment is still with the suppliers, adding that the remaining critical machines, including the tipper and roller, among others, may be procured in the next financial year.

MP Tony Ayo from Kwania district welcomed the decisions, saying they will directly support ensuring effective road maintenance.

“Kwania District is finally getting a grader and a wheel loader that the government has procured for distribution to districts that didn’t have them,” MP Ayo said.

The legislators met with PS Bageya to follow up on the pending pledges by President Museveni to deliver road equipment to all the districts and cities in the country.

In 2021, the government procured and delivered over 1000 pieces of road construction equipment freshly imported from Japan to a total of 118 districts, but some 16 districts, including cities, missed the consignment.
