The spokesperson for the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Brandon Kintu, has assured Ugandans that the government has listened to the voice of the youth and is committed to addressing their issues.
Hon. Kintu confirmed this while on a local radio station on July 30, 2024 and said, “The youth have to understand that the government has listened and is aware of the issues that affect them; it is fighting to put all the measures around to sort them out despite the dynamics. For example, the government is fighting corruption, which also hinders government programs that are meant to improve the standards of living of the youth.”
He said that, if there is any chance to identify the youth from their constituencies, the Members of Parliament will be tasked with reaching out to them in order to fully hear their voices.
“This, therefore, would prevent these youth from thinking they are not listened to,” Kintu added.
Kintu noted that whoever is behind luring the youth into protests is dragging them outside the box of development because they are pulled into activities that waste their time and are life-threatening but primarily drag them out of government activities for self-interest.
The Spokesperson called upon the youth to reach out to institutions like the anti-corruption state house, the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID), the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Public Procurement and Disposal Authority (PPDA), and the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), to fight corruption.
