A group of Kenyans has come out to blame the government of Kenya for not enacting laws and issuing strict policies on roads which has led to increased road accidents.
One of the social media users and a Keny an identified as Lang’at Kiprotich @iamkipro blamed accident cases on the government’s inability to put in place strict policies and measures to have hawkers leave the roadside.

“These accidents are as a result of inability of your govt to act. Hawkers and business owners have taken over the roads and this cause blockage of roads hence accidents. But because of populism policies and desire for votes you have no courage to enforce road laws,” Longa’t tweeted.

Hillary Kettienya said that Kenya needs a policy on trucks and asked government to enforce traffic segregation in order to make highways safe.

“Kenya needs a policy on long haulage truckers. In many countries they are not allowed on motorways with ordinary traffic at certain times of the day. For public order safety and security. This should be urgent business for you. Motorways and Highway. Classification does not make sense if Traffic segregation is not enforced. Draft the policy and make our Highways safe,” Kettienya responded to President Ruto.

Mailto said that the cause of accidents in the country is due to traders invading roads and streets. He asked President Ruto to act.

“Rais wangu, act now. This is not only in londian but a country problem. Traders have invaded roads every town in Kenya, every street. If you don’t act now your condolences messages will be many,” he said.

“Your Exellency, address the issue of people selling things on the roadsides, we’ve seen this incidences claim many lives, it happened in Migori the other day, today it’s happened again. Let be a civilised people and get business off the roadsides!” Son-of-the-Soil tweeted.

Kenyans were responding to President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya on his Twitter handle on Friday night, June 30, 2023, at around 11:02pm, as he sent a condolence message to the families who lost people in a fatal accident that occurred at Londiani in Kericho County, killing 48 people and leaving over 30 others critically injured, on that very night.

President Ruto cautioned motorists against reckless driving and urged them to be extra cautious when driving on the road.

“The country mourns with the families who have lost loved ones in a horrific road accident in Londiani, Kericho County. It is distressing that some of the fatalities are young people with a promising future and business people who were on their daily chores,” Ruto tweeted.

Adding, “We pray for the speedy recovery of all survivors; you are in our thoughts. We urge motorists to be extra cautious on roads, especially now when we are experiencing heavy rainfall.”

The fatal accident occurred after a truck lost control and rammed into other vehicles and pedestrians as well as hawkers that were selling goods at the roadside, according to reports from Police in Kericho.
