Government to Implement, Designate Road Lanes for Ambulances

In developed countries such as Germany, when traffic comes to a stop, cars must move to one lane to create a lane for emergency vehicles like ambulances to get to hospitals faster. If implemented, this will be a good move that will help to save a number of lives.

In a bid to transport emergency patients to hospitals more efficiently and swiftly, the government of Uganda has planned to designate road lanes for ambulances to easily get to hospitals.

During the funeral service of the State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, the late Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, that took place on September 10, 2024, at the All Saints Cathedral in Kampala, Anita Annet Among, the Speaker of Parliament said that President Museveni has dedicated to putting an ambulance lane on roads to ensure patients with emergency conditions easily access hospitals.

“I want to thank the president for this promise because it will be done. We must have a lane for ambulances for emergency issues to get to hospitals as fast as they can,” she noted.

The speaker directed all Members of Parliament (MPs) to make sure that the implementation of ambulance lanes be pushed by all of them.

“This is a command from the church and the man of God. Much as we may be having health service issues, we must have an ambulance lane as a memory of the woman lying in front of us,” she added.
