Government through the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications has set up a one stop mobile centre to issue driving permits in Kikuube District.
This is to enable residents of Kikuube district and other neighboring districts acquire driving permits, without travelling to Kampala.
The Uganda Driver License System confirmed the development and said, “Process your Driving Licence in Kikuube District from, 8am to 4pm every day, until August 3rd.”
According to Kikuube district leaders led by Peter Banura, the District Chairperson, many people in the region drive cars and motorcycles without permits, which endangers other road users.
Peterson Mandela an official at Uganda Security Printing Company said that, for one to qualify for a driving permit, they should be conversant with the high way code.
“An applicant needs to master the Highway Code because it’s an important requirement for any applicant because it equips you with enough knowledge about road markings and signs,” Mandela said.
He added that the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOVs) is also available to verify if applicants are well versed with the high way code.
“We have set up tents as a training ground for IOVs to make sure that clients are conversant with the Highway Code,” Mandela added.
However, Banura appealed to all residents, right from the Boda-Boda cyclists, to small vehicles, trucks, trailers, to ensure that they own a valid permit.
“If you’re roadworthy, or going to the driving school, and you have your national ID, take this opportunity when we still have it such that we are able to reduce some of these road clinics that we have in this region,” Banura said.
The centre will be operational for two weeks, at the District Meeting Hall. This is a good opportunity for people in Hoima, Kakumiro, Kibaale, Kagadi, and the surrounding areas.
