The Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development set to conduct the traditional and cultural leaders’ conference in Kampala.
On Thursday, January 9th, 2024, during a media briefing at the Media Centre in Kampala, the Minister of State for Gender and Cultural Affairs, Peace Regis Mutuuzo, said the upcoming National Conference for Traditional & Cultural Leaders will be held from January 16-17, 2025, at the Imperial Royal Hotel.
Minister Mutuuzo said the conference will focus on the pivotal role that traditional and cultural leaders can play in advancing Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
“Discussions will revolve around strengthening their contributions to national development, improving government-culture partnerships, and tackling critical challenges such as harmful cultural practices like FGM, poverty, and gender-based violence,” said Minister Mutuuzo.
The goal is to develop actionable solutions that align with Uganda’s Vision 2040.
Last year, in September 2024, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with the cultural leaders and implored them to sensitize their people to create wealth and enhance livelihoods.
The President asked them to embrace government programs like PDM to better their lives and cautioned them against bad politics of dividing people based on their tribes, which hinders development.
