Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) has confirmed final preparations for the rollout of the post-registration vehicle license plate fitment, following concerns from members of the public over delays in receiving their plates.
In a statement released Monday August 11, 2025 by the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System Uganda (ITMS), officials acknowledged frustrations from those who have already paid for the service but have yet to have their plates installed.
“We kindly request those who have rushed to pay for this service and complained of delayed fitment to wait for official communication from the government on when to proceed,” the statement said.
The government emphasized that payment alone does not guarantee immediate fitment.
“The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, will first verify that vehicles and motorcycles have cleared all relevant taxes and confirm ownership before proceeding with plate installation,” the statement read.
Officials also revealed that priority is currently being given to first-time vehicle registrations and the issuance of duplicate plates for lost number plates.
The government assured the public that the post-registration exercise will begin smoothly once all logistical preparations are complete and pledged to keep citizens updated as the process progresses.
Citizens have been urged to remain patient and cooperate with authorities during this transition period.
