President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has announced a government plan to establish animal feed manufacturing plants in the Bukedi Subregion.

He announced this on Friday, November 8th, 2024, while touring the piggery and poultry farm of a retired teacher, Loda Benedict, in Bukoda Zone, Kasasira town council, Kibuku district, who had received funding from the government initiative of the Parish Development Program, PDM, in 2023.

President Museveni kicked off his wealth creation mobilization tour to assess the implementation of PDM in the Bukedi subregion on Friday, where he toured about three farms in Kibuku, Butebo, and Budaka districts, respectively.

While in Kibuku district, the president announced the government’s plan to establish animal feed manufacturing plants in the region. He then tasked the Vice President Maj. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo to conduct massive consultations with leaders regarding the plan.

Loda said the Shs1 million that he received from the PDM program enabled them to acquire exotic piggery breeds and later expand his farm into poultry. Currently he has some 23 turkey birds, courtesy of the PDM funds.

The President Museveni was accompanied by the VP Major (Rtd) Alupo, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and the area local leaders. He offered them a support of Shs10 million to boost their farming activities and also tasked the VP Alupo to extensively discuss with local leadership regarding the government’s plan to establish animal feed manufacturing plants.

Loda said that ever since he got the PDM fund, his family has never been the same, adding that he was able to expand his farm using the money he received from PDM.

“I have so far sold 15 piglets and was able to use the fund to support the education of my children. PDM helped my family acquire the improved breed of pigs. I got PDM Money in 2023, but ever since I have never been the same,” Loda said.

The president also toured two other separate farms in Butebo and Budaka districts. On Saturday, November 9th, 2024, the President will meet the local leaders of the region.
