Simon Luyima, a 21-year-old male water vendor, has been murdered in cold blood and his recently purchased motorcycle stolen.

This incident happened on the evening of July 1, 2024, in Kisekka Mpenja in Mpenja Sub County.

Luyima, a resident of Kajoji-Busujju in Kibibi village, Gomba district, was a water seller who had recently purchased a motorcycle to expand his business.

According to the locals, Luyima had spent many years fetching water on his bicycle and selling it to the locals. However, when he got enough money, he bought a motorcycle to ease his work.

’’It is sad that such a young, hardworking lad was gruesomely killed; we are really going to miss him because he was playing a vital role in the day-to-day activities of our village,’’ one of the locals stated.

In an interview, the deceased’s elder brother Vincent Kibuuka revealed that on July 1, 2024, at around 6:30 p.m., after selling water to the locals, two unknown men asked him to drive them to Gombe in Butambala. He alleged that they must have asked him to use a different route through Kisaka-Mpenja, but when they reached a bush, the men attacked Luyima, vigorously hit a hammer on his head, left him badly wounded, and took off with his motorcycle.

Kibuuka added that his younger brother was discovered by passersby who took him to Gombe Hospital; however, he was bleeding too much due to his severe wounds on his head.

’’My young brother was in a very poor state due to the deep wounds he incurred on his head. He bled out to death,’’ Kibuuka revealed.

The Katonga region police spokesperson, SP Karim Majid, said that investigations are underway and a manhunt for the culprits has been launched.
