Ghanaian chef Abdul Razak Failatu has reached 55 hours into her quest to break the longest individual cooking record in the Guinness World Record, just a few days after the completion of a Ugandan chef, Dorcus Kirabo Basheba, commonly known as Mama D.
Chef Failatu commenced the cook-a-thon at the Modern City Hotel located in Tamale at midnight on January 1, 2024, and is expected to cook until January 5, 2024.
According to chef Failatu, her motivation is derived from her urge to put Ghana and the Northern Region on a global stage.
“I strongly believe that my participation will put Ghana and the Northern Region on a global stage, promote tourism, and give Ghana other opportunities,” Failatu said.
Faila’s cook-a-thon follows that of a Ugandan chef, Mama D, who is currently pending approval for breaking the world record for the longest cooking marathon.
The Ugandan chef, who submitted evidence to the Guinness World Record Book, started cooking on December 23, 2023, and ended on December 28, 2023, cooking for 144 hours, 7 minutes, and 7 seconds. She cooked 123 meals, beating the record set by Alan Fisher from Ireland, who cooked for 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds in November 2023.
Chef Failatu is a female Ghanaian married to Reginald Ofuauhen and has one child. She hails from a place called Tamale, found in the Northern Region of Ghana.
