The Special Presidential Advisor to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Special Operation, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has tasked police to conduct a quick investigation into the attempted assassination of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, the Director of the House of Prayer Ministries International, commonly known as Canaan Land.

Pastor Bugingo was reportedly attacked at approximately 9 p.m. on January 2nd, 2024, by unidentified assailants along Namungona, Zone 2, Kasubi Rubaga Division Kampala, at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road; unfortunately, they murdered his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza, a soldier from the Special Forces Command.

“Once again, we urge the law enforcement agencies to quickly investigate and bring these criminals to justice. Who are these criminals? Is it the ADF or some other shadowy group? We need answers to these questions,” Gen. Muhoozi said.

According to Muhoozi, this is the second attack on the supporters in the last eight months, and no offender has been brought to book yet.

“The case of the cold-blooded murder of Isma Olaxess is still unresolved, but we thank God that our strong supporter, Pastor Bugingo, survived an attempt on his life last night as he was driving home. I have spoken to him, and he is well. However, he was slightly wounded on his left shoulder,” said Gen. Muhoozi.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, said investigations to ascertain the assailant are ongoing.

“Despite sustaining injuries during the attack, Pastor Bugingo managed to transport the vehicle to Mulago Hospital. However, his bodyguard, Muhumuza, succumbed to the assault and was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital,” he added.

He is currently undergoing medical treatment and is under close monitoring.
