Garnacho Wins 2024 FIFA Puskas Award for Stunning Overhead Kick

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has been crowned the winner of the 2024 FIFA Puskas award in a ceremony held at the iconic Theatre du Chatelet in Paris France on Tuesday December 17,2024.

The 20-year-old Argentine’s name is now engraved in the history books of football.

The atmosphere was electric with anticipation as the world’s top footballers gathered to celebrate the beautiful game.

Amidst the ocean of suits and expensive designer garments, one man stood out and it’s Alejandro a star shinning in Manchester.

Little did the youngster know that he was following in the footsteps of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo who won the same prize in 2009.

After winning the Puskas Award, the 20-year-old vowed to strive for more success.

“It was a special goal and I’ll always remember it, but there are many more incredible moments to come with this team. We have a lot to look forward to together because it’s impossible to be here without my team-mates,” Garnacho said.

Garnacho’s Puskas award win is a testament to his hard work and dedication for the beautiful game.

He becomes the second Manchester United player to win this prestigious accolade after his idol Cristiano Ronaldo who won the inaugural award in 2009.

Garnacho is also the second Argentine to win the prize after Erik Lamela in 2021.

It is the fifth time in 15 years of the Puskas Award that the winning goal has been scored in a Premier league match, following in the footsteps of Olivier Giroud (2017), Mohamed Salah (2018), Son Heung-min (2020) and Erik Lamela (2021).

Other nominees for the prestigious award who were voted by fans and a panel of FIFA legends included Mohammed Kudus, Denis Omedi, Paul Onuachu, Jaden Philogene, Federico Dimarco, Michaell Chirinos, Walter Bou, Yassine Benzia, Terry Antonis, and Hassan Al Haydos.
