FUFA to Host 2024 Women’s Olympic Qualifier against Rwanda at Kigali Pele Stadium

The Uganda Federation of Football Association (FUFA) has on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, been granted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the first leg of the 2024 Women’s Olympic Qualifier against Rwanda at Kigali Pele Stadium on July 12, 2023.

“FUFA has already received the confirmation from the Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) of the availability of the Stadium,” FUFA tweeted.

Hussein Ahmed, the FUFA Communications Director explained why they are hosting such matches outside the country, stating that Uganda’s Mandela National Stadium in Namboole is still under renovation and the would be other option of St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende cannot be accessed at the time.

“With unavailability of CAF standard Stadiums for hosting matches of these magnitude, our option is to implore using venues outside the country until the Mandela National Stadium is completed .The other option of St. Mary’s stadium Kitende is not available for use as it is undergoing renovation works,” Ahmed said.

According to FUFA, the Uganda’s Crested Cranes is set for clash with Rwanda’s She  Amavubi on July 12, 2023, at 4:00pm Rwanda local time and 5:00pm Eastern African Time(EAT).

FUFA stated noted that, from the first round draws, Uganda will first host Rwanda in their country before the winner battles Cameroon in the second round at the same stadium.

Crested Cranes Provisional Squad is comprised of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards.

Goalkeepers include, Ruth Aturo (Alshabab FC Women, Saudi Arabia), Daisy Nakaziro (Kampala Queens FC, Uganda), Daphine Nyayenga (She Corporate FC, Uganda), Hadijah Nalongo (UCU Lady Cardinals, Uganda), and Sharon Kaidu.
