The President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Moses Magogo, has appealed to Ugandans to continue supporting the local football teams to promote local sports and move to commercialized sports that will lead to the development of the country.

According to Magogo, it is wrong to finance or promote foreign football at the expense of Ugandan football.

“It is not too late to get salvation from the mental chains. Pay for and promote a Ugandan football club of your choice,” Magogo said.

He called upon influential people such as politicians, religious leaders, and cultural leaders, among others, to lead by example and support any Ugandan team of their choice.

“It is even worse for Ugandan public opinion shapers, including politicians, religious leaders, celebrities, cultural leaders, and forces, among others. We can lead by example by identifying with at least one Ugandan football club,” Magogo said.

Magogo revealed that he has been a victim of supporting foreign soccer, only to realize that it is mere indoctrination. The FUFA President said that he is proud of founding Kampala Queens football club and being a lifetime supporter of SC Villa Jogoo, a Ugandan team.

“Many of them have paid for and propagated foreign football before but have realized it is indoctrination. I am a proud founder of the Kampala Queens football team and a lifetime supporter of SC Villa Jogoo,” he said.

Many heads of football associations have expressed the need to commercialize sports and have since fronted the support of local sports as a first step to commercialize sports to uplift the country’s economy.

Commercialization of sports is a feature of enterprise that involves the sale, presentation, or use of sports or some aspects of sports to generate income.
