The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has extended the contract of Uganda Cranes head coach, Paul Put, until 2028, following what the federation described as an impressive performance during his tenure.

The Belgian tactician signed a new two and a half year deal with FUFA on Thursday, 6th November, 2025, cementing his stay as the national team’s head coach through the AFCON 2027, which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

According to FUFA First Vice President, Justus Mugisha, the renewal was based on merit and performance.

“The FUFA Executive Committee made a rare decision to renew Coach Paul Put’s contract, a testament to his outstanding performance,” Mugisha said.

FUFA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson, also appreciated Put for his contribution to the national team and expressed optimism about the future.

“We look forward to a positive and successful future, where we will continue to achieve more under FUFA’s vision of becoming the number one football nation, both on and off the pitch,” Watson stated.

Paul Put, who took charge of the Uganda Cranes in November 2023, has since guided the team to notable progress. Under his leadership, the Cranes have registered 13 wins, 3 draws, and 7 losses, scoring 30 goals and conceding 24.

His renewed contract will see him continue to build on that foundation as Uganda prepares for major competitions, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) in Morocco and the AFCON 2027 that will take place in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
