The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced the resumption of FUFA drum competitions, season four.

While announcing the Drum’s return, Rogers Byamukama, the chairperson of the FUFA Drum organizing committee, said on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, that a total of 42 games would be played by regions of the country.

“We are delighted to have this competition return, and just like you all know, this is a tournament that brings out passion, excitement, and thrilling action. We promise to deliver a better championship this year, and everyone should rally behind their respective provinces to be part of the great adventure,” said Byamukama.

Byamukama added that the fourth tournament has come with changes, including an increase in the number of games from 36 played last year to 42, and this year’s finals will be played on a one-legged basis.

He said there are a total of 16 provinces, including Buganda, Lango, Tooro, Karamoja, Kampala, Ankole, Bukedi, Sebei, Busoga, Bugisu, Kigezi, Rwenzori, West Nile, Bunyoro, Teso, and Acholi.

According to Byamukama, Bunyoro will play Sebei, Ankole will be playing Bukedi, Rwenzori will play Kigezi, and Busoga will play Karamoja in the first round of the tournament.

He also revealed that since its inception in 2018, the FUFA drum continues to grow, and with the support of partners like MTN and others, Ugandans should expect a great tournament.

According to organizers of the tournament, the eight provinces that did not make it to the quarterfinals last year were randomly paired and will play in the first round, with the first matches starting on June 24th.

However, the fixtures above will be played on a home and away basis, and the winners on aggregate will proceed to the group stage.

FUFA revealed that this year’s competition will have four groups each with three provinces, and semifinalists from last year’s edition have been placed in different groups.

According to FUFA, at the group stage, the games will be played on a home and away basis, with each team guaranteed to play six games.

The best two teams from each group will progress to the quarterfinals. The games at this level will also be played on a home and away basis, with the winners on aggregate advancing to the semifinals.
