The National Information Technology Authority (NITA) in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has launched a new initiative to provide free internet access at the Kikorongo Equator, a major tourist landmark in Uganda. This collaboration aims to enhance tourist experience that will now be able to share real time moments at this geographical site.

James Obita, representing NITA while speaking at the launch of the free internet today August 27, 2025 told journalists that this move will amplify Uganda’s visibility globally while promoting the country to potential tourists.

“Our collaboration with UTB to establish free internet at the Kikorongo Equator aims to give tourists a live, connected experience, allowing them to share their moments in real time, while boosting the country’s visibility and promoting tourism,” said Obita.

The Kikorongo Equator is a place in Uganda where the northern and southern halves of the Earth meet. It’s a popular tourist spot known for its beautiful scenery and cultural importance.

Many people visit Kikorongo to see the equator line and take part in local activities. Free internet at the site is expected to make visitors happier, encourage them to stay longer, and help spread the word when they post about their trip online.

This effort shows that NITA and UTB are working to improve tourism in Uganda by using modern technology to support the country’s economy.

Having internet access at the Kikorongo Equator is likely to attract even more tourists, especially international ones who want to stay connected while they travel.
