The embattled former Deputy Resident City Commissioner in charge of Rubaga Division in Kampala, Anderson Burora, has formed a pressure group within the ruling National Resistance Movement Party.

Code named the National Resistance Movement in Resistance (NRM-IR), Burora said the new formation will focus on mobilizing supporters against corruption.

While addressing the media on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in Kampala, Burora said the group aims to enhance advocacy against abuse of office by public officials, among others.

“Many young people cannot join the party because of corruption, impunity, and abuse of office. It is with this background that we choose to resist impunity and abuse of power,” said Burora.

Burora demanded an immediate investigation into the affairs of parliament and called for the resignation of the Speaker, Anita Annet Among, the Parliamentary Commissioners, and the Inspector General of Government, Betty Kamya.

“Today we have come up to say no to corruption, and we are calling upon all NRM members, Bazzukulu among others, to join the fight,” said Burora.

He also questioned how parliament would audit other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies if they could not be audited and how the Speaker would hold others accountable when she has deliberately refused accountability in parliament.

Burora further faulted religious leaders for failing to fight corruption and playing double standards by accepting money from corrupt officials, knowing they were under investigation for corruption.

According to him, the current corruption in government is being practiced by a few party members which should be rejected.

Trouble for Burora stemmed from a continued attack against the Speaker of Parliament accusing her of alleged corruption.

He was suspended on March 14th, 2024, for an alleged violation of official advice moments after attending a meeting where he was criticized.

This was during a social media campaign for the Parliament exhibition, in which the activists exposed alleged financial impropriety in parliament.
