The Bishop Emeritus of the Anglican Diocese of Namirembe, Rt. Rev. Samuel Balagadde Ssekadde, will be buried on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the cathedral cemetery.
This was confirmed by Rt. Rev. Moses Banja, the current Bishop of Namirembe Diocese and also the spokesperson of the Anglican Diocese of Namirembe, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in a statement, who said that Bishop Ssekadde will be laid to rest at the cathedral cemetery in Namirembe.
According to Bishop Banja, the body arrived on Tuesday 15, 2024, at 6:00 pm to Bugonga home for the funeral service and the vigil. Then on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11:00 am, there will be a funeral service at St. Mark’s Church Entebbe Namate.
“At 6:00 pm, the body will also be at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe and will be received by the Dean in Hannington Chapel,” he said.
He further announced the burial arrangement program, saying that at 7:00 pm there will be a Holy Communion funeral service and vigil throughout the night at the cathedral.
Bishop Banja added that there will be a funeral service at the cathedral at 1:00 pm, and at 2:00 pm, the body will be laid to rest at the cathedral cemetery.

Bishop Emeritus Ssekadde died on Monday, October 14, 2024, from Kisubi Hospital, where he had been admitted.
The Rt. Rev. Ssekadde was the Bishop of Namirembe from 1994 to 2009, where he retired after having served for over 16 years at the diocese and was replaced by Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, who also retired recently and was replaced by Rt. Rev. Moses Banja as the sixth Bishop of Namirembe Diocese.
During his tenure, Bishop Ssekadde played a significant role in shaping the spiritual landscape of Uganda through his pastoral work. He served the church for around 50 years, and his leadership and vision contributed to the growth and development of the Anglican community in the country.
Bishop Emeritus Ssekadde was married to Maama Allen Ssekadde, who celebrated their 50 years of marriage as a golden jubilarian couple at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, on Sunday, December 11, 2022.
