The former Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament, Sanjay Tanna, has taken on a campaign against what he termed as alarming greed and selfishness by a section of local leaders in the area.
Sanjay, who represented Tororo municipality from 2006 to 2016, has in the recent past been overheard criticizing area local leadership for land grabbing and failing to deliver to the expectations of the locals.
The recent incident was last week on Tuesday, 4th February, 2025, at Agururu A3 village, popularly known as Chaminula, after he made an unexpected appearance in the area for a burial.
Tanna, who had gone to mourn the late Asadi Mwendya, the father-in-law of the Tororo Municipality Mayor Kenneth Orono Nyapidi, pinned local leaders for greed and selfishness, which he said has massively impeded the development.
During his visit, Tana, also a renowned NRM cadre, received a heroic welcome, causing a pause to the funeral program for over 30 minutes.
According to Tanna, the current leaders are only up to achieving self-enrichment and petty personal fights and wondered how such leaders can have the effrontery to come back and ask for votes.
Immediately, mourners sighted Sanjay; their excitement ran out of control, and they started chanting his name and praising him even before he could reach the burial grounds.
In the background of the excitement, some women were heard saying our man is back and Tororo municipality will soon regain its lost glory.
Mourners, led by Wilberforce Ochwo, an area resident, pleaded with Sanjay to reclaim the Tororo municipality seat and focus on the elimination of greed, corruption, and bad governance in Tororo municipality.
Sanjay has, however, remained silent about the appeal of locals courting him to contest for the Tororo Municipality parliamentary seat.
