A former theatre assistant at Aura Regional Referral Hospital has been sent on remand after being charged with corruption.

Paul Wamana appeared before the anti-corruption court in Kampala on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, and was remanded to Luzira prison.

Mariam Natasha, the Spokesperson for Anti-Corruption, said that the suspect was arrested by the police in February 2024 following a complaint against him by the couple.

‘’It’s alleged that on May 29, 2022, while being employed as a theatre assistant at Arua Regional Referral Hospital, the accused solicited and received a bribe from the parents of an Infact in exchange for performing a surgical operation on the child,” Natasha said.

She added that on the day of the operation, he failed to attend to the patient, which caused delays, and unfortunately, the child passed on.

According to the investigation report, Wamana was first given UGX 210,000 with the promise of more.

Wamana will reappear before the same court on March 26, 2023.
