Former AG Prof. Kiddu Makubuya Dies at 75

Prof. Makubuya further served as the Minister of General Duties in the office of the Prime Minister. On February 16, 2012, he resigned from the cabinet due to claims of embezzlement of government funds.

The former Attorney General, Prof. Kiddu Makubuya, has died at the age of 75 after reportedly passing away on Monday morning, August 19, 2024, following a protracted illness.

Prof. Makubuya served as Uganda’s Attorney General from 2005 to 2011. He also served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Katikamu South Constituency in Luwero district.

He was born on July 30, 1949, and obtained a First Class Honors in Bachelors of Law degree from Makerere University in 1974. The fallen counsel also held a Masters of Law degree and a Doctorate of Juridical Science obtained from Yale Law School in 1976 and 1979, respectively.

Makubuya worked as a special assistant at the Faculty of Law at Makerere University from 1974 to 1975. In 1979, he was promoted to lecturer and continued in that role until 1982, when he advanced to senior lecturer. By 1984, he had risen to the rank of associate professor. Alongside his academic career, Makubuya was also a partner at the private law firm, Kasolo & Khiddu Advocates.
