The football fraternity around the world continues to pay tribute to former Manchester United legend and Balon Dor winner Denis law who passed on on Friday January, 17, 2025 aged 84.
Manchester United posted on their official X account announcing the passing of the legend and said that Everyone at Manchester United is mourning the loss of Denis Law, the King of the Stretford End, who has passed away, aged 84.
Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said that Denis was a fantastic character, one of the great characters you get in football who absolutely loved the game.
Manchester city where Law played for a short spell said that ,” The whole of Manchester, including everyone at City, is mourning with you. Rest in peace, Denis. Our thoughts are with Denis’ family and friends at this difficult time,
Huddersfield town also sent in tribute on their x account saying that all at Huddersfield Town are profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of Denis Law. A legend of not only our great Club, but an immortal of the sport as a whole, he will be deeply missed and his memory cherished by us all.
UEFA posted on X, “On behalf of European football, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Denis Law. One of Scottish football’s true greats, he was a Ballon d’Or winner in 1964 before lifting the European Cup with Manchester United in 1968. Rest in peace, Denis.”
During his time at United, Law helped the club win numerous titles, including Ballon d’Or in 1964, the European Cup in 1968, two premier league tittles, one FA cup and two super cups. making him one of Europe’s best players of the time.
Prior to joining Manchester United, Denis had played for Huddlesfield town, Manchester city, Italian side Torino and joined Manchester United in 1962.
Law was the only surviving member of the United trinity of Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law and he was the only player with two statues at the stadium: He stands solo on the Stretford End and Law’s 46 goals in the 1963-64 season remains a single-season record for United. His 237 goals for the club are bettered by only Charlton and Wayne Rooney.
