Junior Gazelles were named the second-most improved underage female basketball team at the FIBA Awards ceremony held in Manilla, Philippines.
The FIBA Awards ceremony began on August 23, 2023, and it will end on Friday August 25, 2023.
The National Federation Progression Award was awarded to the top three most improved national federations from the period between 2021, following the FIBA Mid-Term Congress, and July 2023, as per the FIBA World Ranking presented by Nike.
The national teams with the highest number of ranking points gained during this period were recognised, and the winner was Slovenia, followed by Uganda in second place,
Portugal, Tanzania, and Samoa tied.
The world’s governing body for basketball is an independent association formed by 212 national basketball federations throughout the world.
It is recognized as the sole competent authority in basketball by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
National Federations were recognized and celebrated for their achievements at the ceremony with various awards.
Despite the Junior Gazelles being young they have achieved relative success as they attained a sixth finish, their best ever, having lost the battle for fifth to Morocco (65-56).
