The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party has unveiled Dr. Rosemary Alwoc, the daughter of late Dokolo Woman MP Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, as the flag bearer in the forthcoming by-election to replace her seat in Parliament.

Dr. Alwoc was presented to FDC National Executive Committee members on Wednesday, February 14th, by party President Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat during a  press conference held at their headquarters, Najjanankumbi, in Kampala.

Amuriat urged all other political parties, including the ruling NRM, UPC, NUP, DP, and FDC Katonga faction headed by Elias Lukwago, to rally behind Dr. Alwoc as an honour to the late MP Ogwal.

According to Amuriat, FDC Party headquarters is ready to deploy a special group of youths to counter possible violence during the by-election, noting that they will do whatever it takes to guarantee victory for their flag bearer. He further asked the newly sworn in chairman and members of the Independent Electoral Commission to ensure level ground for all contestants to prove to Ugandans that they are different from the previous groups.

“I urge all voters in Dokolo to find the perfect replacement for the late MP Ogwal in her daughter, Dr. Alwoc. This will enable her to complete her mother’s remaining development programmes and legacies in serving the people,” said Amuriat.

James Otoo, the Dokolo LCV chairperson and the FDC’s regional vice chairperson for Northern Uganda, will coordinate the campaign activities of Dr. Alwoc with close supervision from the party Secretary General, Nandala Mafabi.

In her maiden speech shortly after being unveiled, Dr. Alwoc noted that her involvement in the politics of Dokolo started many years ago since she would closely work with and guide her late mother in various activities. According to Alwoc, she can only deliver her late mother’s remaining plans for the people of Dokolo once given the leadership mandate.

Justice Simon Byabakama, the chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission, released the road map for the Dokolo by-election on Monday, February 12th. The by-election to replace the late MP Ogwal is slated for March 21st.
