The opposition Forum for Democratic Change party has embarked on a clandestine move to train and equip a special Brigade with skills to protect votes during elections.
A source within the party headquarters confirmed that the first group was trained on July 11, 2023, at Najjanankumbi.
In a brief message shared on the FDC party’s official Twitter handle, the opposition party said the group will be specifically equipped with skills in handling electoral processes and voting protection to ensure transparent, free, and fair elections.
The training is also expected to build the capacity to execute their responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism and integrity during any election.
“FDC strongly upholds the principles of democracy on which the party is built, and we must ensure that these principles are upheld during the upcoming internal elections,” read part of the tweet.
FDC Party spokesperson MP Ibrahim Ssemujju could not be accessed for comments.
On Tuesday, while featuring on the NBS TV morning breeze show, the opposition FDC party’s former presidential candidate, Col. (Rtd.) Dr. Kizza Besigye, said the election in Uganda is rendered meaningless due to the continued excessive use of force by the regime.
