The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction has rejected the clarion call for reconciliation by Engineer Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the party President, stating that he has no constitutional mandate to send them an olive branch that does not exist.

Francis Mwijukye, a legislator representing Buhweju County said that, the leadership at Katonga will not listen to calls from Najjanankumbi because they are not in any way concerned with what is happening there.

Mwijukye made the remarks while speaking to the media during a press conference held at Katonga Road in Kampala on Monday, November 13, 2023.

“Amuriat and his counterparts have no mandate to call us to reconciliation because they were dismissed from being leaders of the party in the Extraordinary Delegates Conference convened on September 19, 2023 at Katonga party offices,” Mwijukye said.

Mwijukye confirmed that, the streamlining process of party structures at the village level is set to commence on December 9, 2023.

According to Mwijukye, after strengthening the party structures, they will convene the National Delegates Conference in March 2024 to completely uproot the leadership at Najjanankumbi and regain their party.

However, while addressing the press at Najjanankumbi on Monday, November 13, 2023, John Kikonyogo, the Spokesperson of the Najjanankumbi faction said that, they are very interested in reconciliation which is why they briefed their leaders on how to convince their colleagues at Katonga to come back to the party.

According to Kikonyogo, it does not make sense for the two factions to continue exchanging words because none of them gains out of it.

“Now we are in leadership, we have a bigger duty to see what will bring our brothers and sisters back home where it is possible and where it is impossible, we agree to disagree,” Kikonyogo said.

He said that, during the FDC National Leaders Retreat at Nabinoonya Resort Beach, many leaders were sharpened on how to execute the task of reconciliation by talking to some individuals at Katonga to rejoin the party.

However, political analysts have since revealed that the party escalations have damaged it beyond repair.
