The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction leaders have assured support for the striking opposition Members of Parliament over issues of human rights violations in the country.

Francis Mwijukye, a Member of Parliament representing the people of Buhweju County and the spokesperson of the FDC Katonga, said that they are together with the opposition MPs concerning the quest for justice for the alleged abductees from different parts of Uganda.

Mwijukye made remarks during the press conference held at FDC offices at Katonga Road in Kampala on Friday, November 17, 2023.

“We are here to affirm our stand with opposition members in parliament over the quest for justice for Ugandans who were allegedly abducted by the regime,” Mwijukye said.

Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, the party chairman at Katonga, said that as an opposition party, they commend their colleagues in Parliament for demanding accountability for the abductees, stating that they are together with them.

He also accused their party counterparts based in Najjanankumbi of being insensitive to the fight against human rights violations by the opposition MPs led by Mathias Mpuuga. Birigwa questioned why Najjanankubi MPs like Yusuf Nsibambi remain dormant in the quest for justice for human rights violation victims.

However, according to Mwijukye, Nsibambi and Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Secretary-General at Najjanankumbi, are in a booming relationship with what he called the Oppressor (NRM regime), which is why they are not bothered by human rights violations.

Mathias Mpuuga has called on the NRM regime to not divert the opposition from the fight to end the killings, human rights violations, and missing persons in Uganda.

The opposition MPs have since refused to participate in parliamentary sessions despite the Speaker’s warning to crack them down.
