The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, based in Najjanankumbi, has welcomed the move by Members of Parliament (MPs) to censure Mathias Mpuuga, the former Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP), and the other three commissioners on the Parliamentary Commission over the controversial service award.
According to Robert Centenary, the Vice National Chairperson of the FDC, issues concerning the misuse of taxpayers’ money should be handled without fear or favor, stating that it’s okay for MPs to continue appending signatures to clean Uganda’s legislative body.
“As FDC, we are very okay with the commissioners’ censure because we don’t condone such bad behavior,” Centenary said.
Centenary made the remarks during a press conference that was held at the FDC party headquarter offices at Najjanankumbi along Entebbe Road on Monday, May 27, 2024.
Centenary, however, revealed that the MPs should be careful while pushing the issue of censuring the parliamentary commissioners because it’s possible to end with appending signatures without taking any action.
“Let me hope that the MPs will do a miracle to censure Mpuuga and the three commissioners, because there have been many incidents where MPs append signatures and nothing happens,” the Centenary said.
On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, a section of legislators led by the Lwemiyaga County MP, Theodore Ssekikubo, moved the motion to censure Mathias Mpuuga, Solomon Silwany, Esther Afoyochan, and Prossy Mbabazi, who are accused of warding themselves UGX 500 and 400 million unconstitutionally.
