The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) former party president and presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye, has asked FDC party supporters to join the National Unity Platform (NUP) party in their national special prayers slated for Thursday, December 21, 2023, at NUP party headquarters in Makerere, Kavule.
Besigye confirmed the development on his X handle and asked his followers to attend the prayers in solidarity.
“Our country needs to pray and act to make our future safe and better for all. Let us join the prayers as a symbol of solidarity,” Besigye tweeted.
According to a statement released on the NUP X handle, the prayers will focus on gross human rights violations witnessed in Uganda in the past few years, including abductions, torture, trials of civilians in military courts, and extrajudicial killings.
“As we come to the end of the year, we are coming together as pre-democracy forces in Uganda to pray for our nation,” part of the statement read.
The prayers will be joined by families of victims who will share their experiences and members of other political parties. The national prayers are likely to be attended by members of different opposition parties, members of the media, and other actors from civil society.
Earlier in November, Besigye had also attended the official opening of the National Unity Platform head offices in Makerere Kavule, where he was the chief guest.
