The family of Sharon Natukunda, a 29-year-old housewife who mysteriously went missing on December 16, 2024, has raised concerns over police negligence and possible corruption in handling the case.
The disappearance of Sharon, a mother of two young children, has left her family devastated and questioning the sluggish response from law enforcement.
Sharon’s disappearance is also surrounded with contradictions and suspicious behaviour from her husband, Dr. Richard Nkusa.
According to Sharon’s mother, Ronah Tashobya, Nkusa first informed her on December 14, 2024, that Sharon was missing. However, later, he claimed that Sharon had returned home.
“Two days later, on December 16, at around 10 PM, Nkusa called again to enquire if Sharon was at my house, claiming she had left the children home alone,” Tashobya narrated.
Alarmed, the family attempted to reach Nkusa for updates, but he ignored their calls until the following day. When he finally answered, Nkusa, unconcerned, stated that Sharon had not returned and mentioned he was engaged in taking the children to the village.
Nkusa also never reported the case to the police, which the family found highly suspicious given that they have been married for five years.
Instead, it was Sharon’s father, Moses Tashobya, who filed the missing person report at Ntinda Police Station under reference number SD REF 67/18/12/2024.
The family has accused the police of being slow, unresponsive, and corrupt in handling the case. Initially, the case was reported to Ntinda Police Station, but due to lack of action, it was transferred to Kiira Police and later to Jinja Road Police Station.
The family alleges that Nkusa’s connections within the police force have led to undue interference and a lack of accountability.
Nkusa was briefly arrested but was released on police bond shortly after, raising questions about the integrity of the investigation.
The family has so far spent over Ugx 2.2 million on tracking fees to aid the search for Sharon, yet the police have failed to provide them with any tangible updates or results.
According to the family, Sharon’s telephone is on, but no one picks up the calls.
Shocking revelations from Sharon’s friends and family suggest a history of domestic violence and torture at the hands of Nkusa.
Messages shared with our reporter reveal clear signs of abuse, with Sharon allegedly enduring years of physical and emotional suffering.
Adding to the family’s distress are reports that Nkusa has been planning a wedding with another woman while still married to Sharon. This has fuelled speculation that Sharon’s disappearance may be linked to an attempt to clear the path for Nkusa’s new relationship.
When Sharon’s family visited her home in Ntinda, Kigoowa, they found that Nkusa had removed all of Sharon’s belongings from the house and appeared to have shifted. This further increases the family’s suspicions that Nkusa may be involved in Sharon’s disappearance.
The family has called on the public to support their search and Uganda Police to investigate for justice to prevail, urging anyone with information about Sharon’s whereabouts to come forward.
