The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, has organized the Explore Busoga domestic tourism campaign, slated for February 15–18, 2024.

It is a campaign organized by the government to promote domestic tourism. These domestic tourism campaigns are aimed at creating awareness about existing attractions, spotlighting hidden gems, reviving regional tourism clusters, and birthing new itineraries, among others. It also seeks to interest citizens in traveling and exploring their country.

While on your journey to the Busoga region, here are some of the tourist attractions you ought not to miss out on.

Mabira Forest; Mabira Forest is one of Uganda’s largest rain-forests. This forest harbors a unique set of endangered species named Primate Lophocebus ugandae and is also a desired destination for fun activities like zip lining, bird watching, nature walks, and biking, among others. Zip-lining in Mabira Forest at Gryphon Falls and Archery offers an exhilarating experience as you soar through the lush canopy, taking in breathtaking views of the forest below. Uganda Railway Museum; It’s a national railway museum located along the Jinja-Iganga highway at the railway station in Jinja City. The main aim of the museum is to highlight the role of railways in Uganda’s history and nation-building. The museum diversifies a range of tourist attractions with a collection of artefacts like lamps and railway tools that highlight life before, during, and after independence.

Nile Bridge; The Jinja-Nile Bridge is a magnificent bridge sitting on the River Nile. It is a cable-stayed bridge designed with state-of-the art technology.

Igenge Palace; This is the official home of the Kyabazinga of Busoga. The newly refurbished palace of the Kyabazinga on Igenge Hill in Bugembe, Jinja City, is one to visit while on the Explore Busoga Campaign. Situated on 16.5 acres of land, it is unique in the whole of East and Central Africa and was constructed on Egyptian architecture.

Source of the Nile; While in Busoga, feel an awe-inspiring experience that allows you to witness the birth of one of the world’s most famous waterways. Located at the point where the Nile emerges from Lake Victoria, this iconic site holds both historical and geographical importance, attracting visitors all over the world. Exploring this area offers various activities, such as boat trips to witness the confluence with Lake Victoria, thrilling white-water rafting on the Nile’s rapids, and visiting the Speke Memorial, which provides insight into the historical significance of the Nile’s discovery.

Busowoko Falls; The beautiful scenery at these water falls is unmatched. You get to bond with the waterfalls and the sounds of nature, while enjoying a variety of activities, including water massages, tubing, rafting, and much more.

Rolex; What is exploring Uganda without enjoying its delicacies? While in Jinja for the Explore Busoga campaign, grab yourself a Rolex, which is an egg omelette with vegetables wrapped in a chapati. This mouthwatering bite is a favorite street food across Uganda but prides itself on its origins in the Busoga region.
