Ex-MP Angiro, Four Others Die in a Motor Accident

Five people, including the former Erute North County Member of Parliament in Lira district, Charles Angiro Gutomoi, died in a motor accident along the Karuma-Arua highway.

The fatal incident occurred on Saturday morning, July 8, 2023, when the vehicle, a Toyota Noah with registration number UAW 943A, reportedly lost control and overturned at Olwio while they were travelling to Nebbi district.

MP Paul Omara, the Deputy Clan Head of Onywal Ipyeda, where the deceased was the Head, said that Police are still managing the incident.

“Colleagues, it is with deep sadness that I announce the death of Hon. Angiro Gutomoi Abac Acon, who died in a Motor Accident this morning near Olwio on the road to Nebbi,” MP Omara said.

Omara said that at the time of his death, Ex-MP Angiro was the Awitong of the Onywal Ipyeda Clan.

“I am told they were travelling in a Noah, which overturned, and four people died on the spot. Gutomoi Police are still managing the Accident scene. May God Almighty receive their souls in eternal glory. Amen,” Omara said.

Angiro Gutomoi, a renowned FDC stalwart, joined Parliament in 2001 until 2011, when he lost to Godfrey Omara Adigi.

He was re-elected in 2016 until 2021, when he lost to his daughter-in-law.

In May 2018, the deceased survived death when he got involved in a motor Accident along Karuma (the Kampala highway) when a different Toyota Noah lost control.

I am told they were travelling in a Noah, which overturned, and four people died on the spot. Gutomoi was the Awitong( Clan Head ) of Onywal Ipyeda Clan. He was also the former MP for Erute North Consituency in the 10th Parliament. In the August House, Hon. Gutomoi was known for his passion on issues of education, health, and rural development, among others. My condolences go out to the families of the victims of this fatal accident.
