According to Kokunda, three tons of immature Nile perch fish were destroyed, and yet that would fetch the country a lot of revenue if they were left to mature.

Kokunda applauded the efforts of the President and thanked the UPDF, particularly the Fisheries Protection Unit and the partners who conduct such enforcement operations.

She advised the fishing community to refrain from illicit fishing , the use of inappropriate gear, and she urged them to utilize proper equipment or engage in other activities.

Kokunda further urged everyone to adhere to the approved fishing norms in order to avoid breaking the law and standard operating procedures.

In June 2022, the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU) burned over
600 kilograms of immature Nile perch at the Bugonga landing site, Entebbe municipality.
