In an effort to reinforce road safety and prevent potential hazards, authorities have today September 3 2024 issued a stern warning through their social media handle (X) to garbage trucks against traveling on the Entebbe Expressway with uncovered loads.

This directive follows a recent incident on September 2, 2024, involving a Nabugabo garbage truck at Nambigirwa Bridge, where a worker seated on top of the truck slipped and fell into Nambigirwa Swamp.

This accident raised serious concerns about the dangers of uncovered trucks, especially those carrying hazardous materials.

Officials stated that uncovered garbage trucks carrying waste and having workers on top will no longer be allowed on the expressway. They emphasized the need for this ban to protect everyone who uses the road.

The Entebbe Expressway connects Kampala city to Entebbe International Airport and is built for high-speed traffic. The authorities explained that uncovered garbage trucks could cause debris to scatter on the road, leading to dangerous situations for drivers and passengers.

To ensure these new rules are followed, officials will conduct regular checks along the expressway.

“To enforce this new regulation, authorities will be conducting regular checks and monitoring the expressway to ensure that no uncovered garbage trucks are allowed to pass through.’’ the statement read in part.

The Entebbe Expressway, known for its high-speed traffic and restricted entry and exit points, is not designed to accommodate such risks.
