The Electoral Commission (EC) has finally gazetted People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party bringing an end to an 8-month long wait.
In a publication dated May 16,2025 the Electoral Commission gave notification for registration application signed by EC chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon.
The application was for registration by PFF under section 6(4) of political parties for registration with all the necessary particulars including name, symbol, address, colours and slogan.
“Any person who has reason opposing this application should do so within 14 days of this gazette notice by logging a complaint with Electoral commission,” the notice read in part.
There had been some uncertainty as the Electoral Commission was still verifying signatures from certain districts, but those final steps have now been completed to allow for the
PFF was formed by a breakaway faction from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), specifically the Katonga faction.
Key leaders involved in the formation include Kenneth Opoka, the National Coordinator, and Erias Lukwago, the interim president of PFF.
The party positions itself as a coalition of political, civil society, and pressure groups united distancing itself from being a competitor for political power.
