The newly appointed Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), Veronica Mueni Nduva, has urged the EAC organs and institutions to work as a team to achieve the objectives of the community and benefit the member states.

“I call upon you to ensure collective responsibility to protect and enhance the good image of the East African Community,” Nduva said.

Nduva made the remarks during a well-attended inaugural meeting with EAC staff held at the headquarters of the community in Arusha, Tanzania, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

While addressing the EAC staff members, the Secretary General underscored the critical role that each staff member plays in achieving the organization’s goals and aspirations, calling on staff members to exhibit the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication in their duties.

She also pledged her commitment to all staff to ensure a conducive working environment that promotes professional growth and development.

Nduva, who took the oath of office on Friday, June 8, 2024, became the first female Secretary General for the EAC, replacing Peter Margin, who was recalled by the Kenyan government in March 2024 and redeployed as the country’s ambassador to Russia.

The EAC is an intergovernmental organization composed of eight countries, including Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Somalia, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Tanzania.

The EAC is aimed at widening and deepening cooperation among the partner states in, among others, political, economic, and social fields for their mutual benefit.
