A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 21, 2025, claiming the life of a bus driver and injuring four passengers. The crash happened at around 1:30 AM at Katovu in Ngongwe, along the Katosi–Nyenga Road in Buikwe District.

According to police, the incident involved a Scania bus registration number UA 354AN, belonging to Gateway Bus Company. The bus was en route from Kampala to Soroti via the Katosi route when it suffered a front tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. “The bus overturned to the right side, leading to the instant death of the driver and injuries to four passengers,” said SP Kananura Micheal.

Police responded swiftly, transporting the injured victims to Nkonkonjeru Health Centre and Kawolo Hospital for medical attention. The body of the deceased driver was conveyed to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the wreckage of the vehicle was towed to Ngongwe Police Station pending further investigations.

Authorities have called on motorists to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance and strictly observe traffic safety measures.

“We urge all motorists to conduct regular vehicle maintenance checks and strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents,” SP Kananura added.
