Colonel (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye has referred to the Parliament of Uganda as a market place where people are looking for money because that is how they got there.

According to Besigye, in 62 years, the people of Uganda have never changed their leaders because they don’t have control over how the money collected from them is used.

He noted that Uganda as a country and its people have never chosen its leaders, but instead, people live in a country that is owned by others, not by Ugandans.

Besigye made these remarks while appearing on national television on March 11, 2024, in Kampala to address the National Unity Platform (NUP) party tensions and whether the opposition game plan is in shambles.

He advised that, in order to solve what is happening in Uganda, people have to come to terms with describing the realities in order to solve these issues.

“NUP has no capacity to deal with the corruption in Parliament because it is a whole system; all these people fighting in Parliament are fighting within a territory controlled by Museveni,” Dr. Besigye said.

He noted that they have trained democratic leaders like the Mpuugas for a system that doesn’t exist. Whatever is captured by the UPC, DP, and FDC can capture any political party.

“All the money we collect, it is Mr. Museveni and his family who determine how it is used; all these people fighting in Parliament are fighting within a territory controlled by Museveni,” Besigye noted.

Besigye, in his concluding remarks, said that they must construct their own path, and the NUP party has no capacity to deal with corruption in Parliament alone.
