The Directorate of Public Prosecution has sanctioned two charges, including terrorism and murder, against the four key suspects in the assassination of the former head of the International Crimes Department in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the late Joan Kagezi.

On Sunday, November 5th, President Museveni said security had arrested four suspects, including Kibuuka John, Masajjage John, Kissekka Dan, and Nasur Abdalla.

Jacquelyn Okui, the spokesperson of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, said the file against the four suspects has been sanctioned by DPP Jane Frances Abodo.

Okui noted that the breakthrough in the unresolved murder of Kagezi stemmed from a prosecution-guided investigation that was directed by DPP Abodo in December 2022.

According to Okui, the prosecution-guided investigation was led by the CID, which was comprised of the Counter Terrorism Squad and the Internal Security Organisation, ISO.

The four suspects are expected to appear in court within a week, according to DPP’s spokesperson, Okui.

Joan Kagezi, who was the Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, was killed on March 30th, 2015, at Najjera, a Kampala suburb, while on her way to her residence. She was trailed by the gunmen riding motorcycles.

At the time of her assassination, Joan Kagezi was prosecuting the trial of 13 men accused of a deadly al-Shabab suicide bombing in Kampala in 2010, which killed 76 people.
