The Democratic Party (DP) has come out to strongly ask politicians who are politicizing Kabaka Ronald Mwenda Mutebi II’s illness to desist from the act, saying that the act can easily lead to massive chaos in the country.

During the party’s weekly press release that took place on July 23, 2024, at the party offices on Balintuma Road, Kampala, the party deputy spokesperson, Ismail Kirya, noted that the false news and propaganda on the Kabaka’s health could easily lead up to massive protests.

“We strongly advise those politicians to stop using Kabaka’s illness for their own political gains because the after-effects of the political gains can be dangerous for the country. The Buganda Kingdom is one of the most respected kingdoms in the world, and it deserves respect just like all other cultural institutions,” he noted.

Kirya added that the politicians and their followers should concentrate on what develops the kingdom other than what brings it down, stating that the kingdom has its own communication channels in case it wants to communicate with its subjects.

“We ask that those responsible for the Kingdom’s communication do that. The Kabaka has the Katikiro, his family members, and other Kingdom officials who should be able to make any communications if necessary; otherwise, we welcome the Kabaka back and wish him a quick recovery and a long life,” he added.

Kirya’s statements come after the Kabaka of Buganda returned home after Namibia declined to extend his visa after being there for about three months for medical treatment.
