The opposition Democratic Party leadership has proposed the amendment of electoral laws that can allow elections of both local and national leaders on the same day.

Dr. Gerald Siranda, the DP Party Secretary General, said this would save the government heavy expenditures due to holding elections of leaders on different dates.

Siranda was addressing the press on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the DP party offices in Kampala.

He says the government should consider amending the electoral act that will allow elections to be held on the same day to avoid wastage of resources, time, and fatigue during numerous campaigns at different levels and dates.

Siranda further noted that DP has set April 20, 2024, as the date to hold delegates conference to elect party members ahead of the general election of 2026.

The Electoral Commission recently released the 2026 election roadmap for all the elective positions.
