The Democratic Party Youth (UYD) leader Ismail Kirya, has praised President Museveni for holding bilateral talks with President Putin of Russia in regards to the country’s international security and economic transformation.
While addressing the DP weekly presser on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in Kampala, Kirya applauded the President for his initiative of building international relations.
“As DP, we appreciate the President’s International Relations and highly recommend him to drive the country’s agenda and not personal agenda,” Kirya said.
He noted that the interest for Ugandans is international security and economic transformation.
“Remember that as Ugandans we had a non-aligned policy, where we were not supporting any of the two countries at war with each other (Russia-Ukraine),” Kirya noted.
Kirya hopes that, the talks President Museveni had with Putin, don’t put Uganda on his side of supporting his autocratic ways of invading Ukraine.
“We want to remind the president of Uganda that such initiatives or moves led to the former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to be censured, after meeting and putting trust in President Putin. As citizens, we are the consumers of security. So, we don’t want to be part of selfish interests,” Kirya added.
President Museveni left Uganda on July 26, 2023, for Russia to attend the Second Russia-Africa Summit that ran from July 27-July 28, 2023 at Saint Petersburg City in Russia.
