The Democratic Party (DP) has called for the immediate resignation of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) following his viral tweets on social media, X, which the party termed undiplomatic behavior.
These demands were made during the party’s weekly conference, which took place on October 8, 2024, at the party offices on Balintuma Road in Kampala.
Ismail Kirya, the party’s acting spokesperson, said that the posts made by General Muhoozi on a social media platform, X, were reckless and could disentangle the country’s relationship with other countries, stating that the General should resign from his position as CDF for lack of diplomatic reasoning.
“General Muhoozi’s tweets can easily destroy the country’s relationships with other countries. The last time, he threatened to take over Kenya, and now he’s threatening to deport the Ambassador of America. If these kinds of threats don’t stop, then we shall have to witness countries with embassies here close because the CDF can easily command his army to attack any embassy. We, as DP, demand his immediate resignation from the position,” Kirya said.
Kirya added that it’s more worrying when authorities responsible for diplomatic relations like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the President’s Office do not act on the wrong behaviors of General Muhoozi.
“If President Museveni truly loves this country as he claims he does, he should demote his son from that critical position. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should also come out and pen an apology to the American embassy on behalf of Muhoozi because, in case our relationship with America goes bad, it will be Uganda to lose because America sponsors half of our budget,” he added.

However, during a phone interview, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, weighed on the issues relating to Muhoozi’s tweets and said that Gen Muhoozi’s social media account is not the official communication channel of the UPDF or the president’s office; therefore, it shouldn’t worry anyone.
“Whatever he (Muhoozi) posts on his social media is purely his ideas and not for the UPDF or the President’s office. UPDF has its official channel for communication as well as the president’s office. So that shouldn’t be worrying unless one doesn’t know official communication channels,” he noted.
On October 4, 2024, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba took on his X handle a controversial post that attracted mixed reactions both locally and internationally. In his post, he stated, “If the current Ambassador of America to Uganda does not issue an apology to Mzee personally for his undiplomatic behavior in our country, we will demand he leaves Uganda.”
