The Democratic Party (DP) has called on interested party members in Dokolo to contest the Dokolo district woman MP seat, that fell vacant after the passing of Hon. Cecilia Ogwal.
While addressing members of the press on February 13, 2024, at the party offices, the Uganda Young Democrats president and acting spokesperson for the Democratic Party, Ismail Kiirya, said that the party is ready and wishes to have a candidate to contest for the seat, following the release of the road map for the Dokolo district woman MP by elections yet to take place on March 21, 2024.
“As DP, we want to take this opportunity to call upon all those with qualifications to contest for the seat of women MP for Dokolo district. Now is the time for any DP member who would wish to contest for this seat to come to our party for vetting so that we can nominate you for the upcoming by-election,” Kiirya said.
Kiirya also urged party members to support the candidate of the DP if they get one party member to contest for the seat on the DP flag.
“If we get a candidate to contest for this seat, I call upon all DP members to go to Dokolo and look for votes,” Kiirya added.
Dr. Rosemary Alwoc, the daughter of the late MP Ogwal, is among the 14 women who have already expressed interest in contesting the forthcoming by-election.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Secretary General Richard Todwong, who had camped in Dokolo for days last month, said the party is planning to get a candidate to contest the vacant position.
