The Democratic Party (DP) has urged the Ugandan government to prioritize justice for women across all sectors, including law, politics, and education.

Speaking on March 3, 2026, at the party headquarters in Kampala, Sarah Adong, leader of the DP Women’s League, emphasized that the upcoming International Women’s Day celebrations at Kololo Grounds should focus on improving access to justice for women and girls.

“Access to justice for women and girls in Uganda is something we need to address at all levels including families, institutions, churches, mosques, and beyond. Many women face sexual violence, rape, and denial of education,” Adong said.

She highlighted that the high financial, technical, and political costs of pursuing justice often prevent women from seeking legal recourse.

“The price of accessing justice is unbearable and is limiting women’s ability to claim their rights,” she added.

Adong also condemned political intimidation, noting that many women are silenced in political spaces, citing the recent national elections as an example.

In addition, she raised concerns about the education system, describing it as increasingly inaccessible for mothers in remote districts such as Zombo, Kitgum, and Karamoja.

“Nearly 40% of children did not start school in the first week of the academic calendar because education has become too expensive,” she said.

The Ministry of Gender has confirmed that Uganda will commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026, under the theme: “Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda”, highlighting the urgency of addressing systemic barriers to women’s rights.
